Do I have to pay PAYG instalments?
If you are required to pay PAYG instalments, ATO will write to you and notify you of an instalment rate.
How often do I pay?
PAYG instalments are generally paid quarterly. Some taxpayers pay two instalments a year and some have an annual instalment option.
Your first activity statement will show the options available to you and ask you to choose the option you want to use. You can use only one option in an income year.
Two instalments option
In this arrangement, you pay 75% of your annual PAYG liablity by 28 April and the remainder by 28 July.
Annual instalment option
The PAYG annual instalment is a single lump sum payment toward your expected tax liability on business and/or investment income for the income year.
Payment is normally due on 21 October following the end of the income year.
Quarterly payments
If you are not eligible to pay two instalments a year or an annual instalment, you'll pay PAYG instalments quarterly.
